There are plenty of complications this could cause for you and your boyfriend...and not just insurance-wise.

Medically speaking, it could be dangerous for your boyfriend to take the prescription written for you. Dosage for many drugs is different based on a person's gender, weight, and other factors. So, the dosage of Chantix prescribed for "you" may not be the same dosage that would be recommended for your boyfriend.

There are people who should not be prescribed Chantix, based on their medical history. You could give your boyfriend something that would be potentially dangerous for him by pretending the presciption is for you instead. A doctor may not feel that Chantix is appropriate for him...there are many potentially serious side effects, and it would be unsafe for your boyfriend to take it without under the care of a physician.

(Chantix has been linked to behavioral issues, increased risk of suicide, and neuropsychiatric issues in some patients. It is *extremely* important to be under the care and supervision of a physician when taking this drug.)

Those are just the possible medical complications!

As far as insurance goes...

Obviously, you'd be committing insurance fraud, and would be subject to prosecution if caught.

Additionally, there's always the possibility that you'd have to pay higher health care premiums in the future, if you ever needed to go through medical underwriting to obtain a health insurance policy. (When you apply for insurance, they can check the Medical Information Bureau to get an idea of how expensive you would be to insure. If you look like you use a lot of expensive prescriptions, it could bump you up into a higher premium class.)

This is a very bad idea, just for the medical reasons alone.

<a href="">Terri</a>

Those previous answers are right--so if they really are ending her coverage completely, you should contact the insurance directly and ask about it.

Also, I'd clarify if they're actually dropping her from the plan, or just no longer covering the nursing home stay? Just a thought....again, I'd call the insurance to verify what's happening and why

You will be committing fraud and may lose your health insurance. DON'T DO IT!! There are plenty of free clinics, find one and tell your boyfriend to go. He will only quit if he has the desire and determination to quit, otherwise it is a waste of time.

<a href="">Kim</a>

There are really only two reasons your cobra gets cancelled, when you're making your payments on time: 1. The insurance company goes bankrupt (into receivership) or 2. The prior employer cancels the group health insurance policy. That happens when the employer goes bankrupt, or the business closes.

<a href="">Beatrice</a>

Is her former employer going out of business and/or dropping their insurance plan?

If the employer's group insurance plan no longer exists, then neither does COBRA.

COBRA = continuation coverage of the (former) employer's group plan. If there is no plan, then there is nothing to continue.

Hi GVictoria

Have you tried talking to a local agent in your area? This is usually a good approach because they will know the insurance companies and their plans well. They should be a great resource for you in your search.

If you want to connect with an agent in your area, complete the form below and one will call you and help get you started. Good luck!

<a href="">Leslie</a>

The fact that you are already taking medications indicate that you have a pre-existing health condition. Depending upon the this unspecified health condition you may not be able to qualify for insurance through a private commercial carrier. They may not write the insurance at all or they may write the insurance but exclude coverage for your health condition.

In many States Blue Cross Blue Shield will accept you without regard to your health status.

Check with an agent. He/she know the markets available in your State and can propose plans that take into account your health status and your limited budget (but be prepared health insurance is not inexpensive).
